27th APROGALPA Congress

The Panamanian Association of Dairy Cattle Producers (APROGALPA) held its 27th Congress, titled “Latin American Meeting of Dairy Breed Producers and Crossbreeds for Sustainable Production,” in the city of Chitré, Herrera Province. The event was aimed at producers, students, and the general public.

At the opening ceremony, Carlo Rognoni, Director General of the Agricultural Marketing Institute (IMA), representing MIDA Minister Augusto Valderrama, highlighted the importance of the dairy sector to Panama’s economy.

During the congress, APROGALPA received a 2024 pickup truck from MIDA as support for the development of its activities. Topics covered during this event — held from Thursday, February 29, to Saturday, March 2 — included: Bovine genetics for milk production, grass as a key crop for livestock, A2 milk production, creation of the Girolando breed, dairy zebu cattle breeding, among other relevant subjects.

Speakers from Colombia, the United States, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Mexico, India, and Bolivia participated in the event.
